TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR FIFTY (50) GRADUATES IN THE FIELD OF AGRICULTURE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE AVOCADO CROP

INTRODUCTION
Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) is implementing the Building a Better Tomorrow (BBT) youth in agriculture program for various crops in the country.

Under the BBT-Avocado plan, SUA and the Cereal and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (COPRA) have prepared a plan to employ fifty (50) graduates with agricultural expertise for a period of twelve (12) months to provide Extension Services for a special program to develop the avocado crop in the country. The plan will be implemented in the 2025/2026 agricultural season in preparation for the production of raw avocados. This plan will be implemented in Rugwe District, Mbeya Region.

Furthermore, in the implementation of this special program of extension services through youth graduates in agricultural fields (BBT Agricultural Extension Entrepreneurship Scheme - BBT AEES), fifty (50) qualified graduates in agricultural fields are required to provide extension services for the avocado crop on a temporary employment basis as follows:-

1. Position: Agriculture Officer (5 Positions)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert advice to farmers and stakeholders in the avocado value chain, including education on good agricultural practices, supervising quality of avocados, monitoring compliance, preparing reports, estimating inputs, conducting on-farm trials, updating farmer databases, supervising input distribution, conducting training, verifying quality at AMCOS level, preparing crop forecasts, connecting farmers with stakeholders, supervising assistant officers, and performing other assigned duties.

Required Qualifications:

  • Tanzanian citizen, aged 18–40, with a Degree in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, or Crop Production and Management from a recognized university.
  • Must not be employed, dismissed from public service, or have a criminal record.
  • Willing to work in rural areas on a temporary contract with monthly allowance.
  • Must sign a performance-based agreement.
  • Work experience with avocado is an added advantage.

2. Position: Assistant Agriculture Officer (45 Positions)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Similar to Agriculture Officers, including providing advice on good agricultural practices, supervising avocado quality, preparing weekly reports, updating farmer databases, supervising input distribution, conducting training, verifying quality at AMCOS level, preparing crop forecasts, connecting farmers with stakeholders, ensuring farmer record keeping, selecting lead farmers, advising on other crops, assessing production, and performing assigned duties.

Required Qualifications:

  • Tanzanian citizen, aged 18–35, with a Diploma in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, or Crop Production and Management from a recognized institution.
  • Must not be employed, dismissed from public service, or have a criminal record.
  • Willing to work in rural areas on a temporary contract with monthly allowance.
  • Must sign a performance-based agreement.
  • Work experience with avocado is an added advantage.
