About BRAC Enterprises Tanzania Limited (BETL)
BRAC is one of the world's largest providers of non-formal education. BRAC has been operating schools internationally since 2002 and runs a global pre-primary school program in Tanzania, Uganda, and Bangladesh. Through the 'Play Labs' project, the organization is developing markets for early childhood development (ECD) for children aged 3-5. In Tanzania, this includes 30 play labs co-located with the Tanzanian Government. BRAC Enterprises Tanzania Limited (BETL) is a registered private company in Tanzania working as a social enterprise. BETL is piloting a cross-subsidy business model to improve the development of 3-5-year-old children in Tanzania. The project's goal is to create a sustainable, scalable business model for providing low-cost, high-quality, play-based ECD programs. The BETL team has recently opened five schools and is launching a mobile ECD program in Dar es Salaam.
BRAC in Tanzania is seeking applications from competent, dynamic, and self-motivated individuals to fill the following position:
Position: Operations Officer
Job Location: Dar es Salaam.
Job Summary:
The Operations Officer will be essential in building the financial and operational capacity of Angaza Affiliates. This role involves working closely with Affiliate Heads and Caregivers to enhance compliance, efficiency, and profitability. The officer will support daily finance and operations, offer training and coaching, and ensure each Affiliate is run as a successful business. This position reports to the Finance & Operations Manager and supports the Angaza Academy business plan.
Education Qualifications:
- Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Responsibilities:
- Finance Capacity Building & Support
- Train Affiliate Heads and designated staff on BETL financial policies and procedures.
- Support Affiliates with record-keeping, systems for fee collection, and the use of approved financial tools.
- Review Affiliate financial records to ensure accuracy and compliance, escalating issues to the Finance & Operations Manager (FOM).
- Monitor rates of fee collection and help Affiliates improve profitability.
- Provide on-site coaching to bolster accountability and minimize financial risks.
- Operations Support
- Guide Affiliates in following BETL operational procedures and internal controls.
- Provide hands-on support for procurement, stock management, and using local suppliers to maximize cost-effectiveness.
- Monitor adherence to BETL's safeguarding and quality assurance policies.
- Support Affiliates in preparing for audits, inspections, and registrations with government authorities.
- Share operational best practices among Affiliates to promote business growth and efficiency.
- Logistics and Facilities
- Assist Affiliates and the FOM in organizing cost-effective procurement and delivery of materials.
- Monitor and provide advice on building maintenance, safety, and compliance.
- Help with Affiliate registration processes and liaise with relevant authorities, under the guidance of the FOM.
- Support logistics for Affiliate meetings and training events.
- Reporting & Collaboration
- Prepare regular reports on the business performance of Affiliates for the FOM.
- Provide feedback on challenges and opportunities to enhance Affiliate profitability.
- Collaborate with other BETL teams (Quality, HR, Marketing) to deliver integrated business support.
- Serve as the initial point of contact for Affiliate finance and operations issues, escalating complex problems to the FOM.
Required Skills / Capacity:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in finance/operations support, preferably in a franchise/affiliate or multi-site context.
- Strong coaching and training skills, with the ability to build capacity at the grassroots level.
- Knowledge of financial record-keeping, basic accounting, and compliance requirements in Tanzania.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel to Affiliate centres regularly.
