Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) Positions

Fire Fighter II

  • Perform firefighting, fire drills, and rescue operations under supervision.
  • Carry out fire-prevention activities and participate in firefighting as instructed.
  • Keep records of fire and accident incidents.
  • Attend to special calls, salvage work, and conduct routine inspections of premises.
  • Receive and communicate fire and accident-related incidents and provide first aid to casualties.
  • Maintain all emergency equipment in a state of readiness, including cleanliness, repairing, and testing, and check emergency resources for fire service use.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by a supervisor.

Scanner Operator II

  • Receive the truck and ensure it and the container are in good condition.
  • Check that the truck driver has the correct consignment documents.
  • Direct the truck into the scanning zone and ensure it moves properly for safety.
  • Initialize the scanning process and verify that the radioscopic image is captured correctly and the container number matches the physical one.
  • Ensure the scanner and scanning zone are safe and secure and stop the process during emergencies.
  • Instruct the truck driver to proceed or re-scan based on image quality.
  • Process customs information in the system for radioscopic image analysis.
  • Keep records and report to a supervisor on documents received, consignments scanned, and those not scanned.
  • Promote safety and accident prevention in the workplace.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by a supervisor.

Tug Master II

  • Assist in commanding the tug during berthing and un-berthing operations.
  • Assist in inspecting safety gears, deck machinery, and firefighting equipment.
  • Participate in appraising staff and identifying training needs.
  • Train in preparing weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by a supervisor.

Pilot II

  • Train in piloting ships and other vessels.
  • Train in safe berthing and un-berthing within the ports.
  • Train in tug maneuvering within and beyond harbor boundaries.
  • Train in operating the Floating Crane and dry docking.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by a supervisor.

Tug Mate II

  • Assist in maintaining the tug logbook, showing time and movements, and controlling the tug's movement.
  • Assist in supervising the cleanliness and tidiness of the craft.
  • Assist in supervising rope splicing and winch operations.
  • Assist in supervising paint work, chipping, and cleaning of the tug.
  • Assist the Tug Master by using signs and working with them during operations.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by a supervisor.

Sailor II

  • Clean the wheelhouse, accommodation, and perform chipping and painting on the main deck.
  • Assist in maintaining rescue boats.
  • Stand as a lookout watch.
  • Assist in changing mooring chains for buoys.
  • Assist with manual work during hydrographic surveys.
  • Direct loading and unloading of cargo.
  • Assist with lashing and rope work.
  • Assist in assembling new buoys and towers.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by a supervisor.

Mooring Hand II

  • Perform mooring of vessels during berthing and un-berthing.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of mooring boats.
  • Stand as a lookout watch on the mooring boat.
  • Assist in changing mooring chains for buoys.
  • Assist with manual work during hydrographic surveys.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by a supervisor.

VTS Operator II

  • Assist in operating radar and other electronic navigation system equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining a proper lookout by radar or system to monitor vessel traffic.
  • Assist in interpreting pictures and plotting positions, directions, and other relevant information.
  • Communicate appropriate information to vessels regarding traffic status, including position, speed, direction, and environmental factors.
  • Assist in coordinating traffic information to facilitate safe sailing, anchorage, or berthing.
  • Assist in operating the GMDSS properly.
  • Assist in coordinating maritime communication for search and rescue operations within port limits.
  • Perform any other related official duties assigned by a supervisor.

ICT Officer II (Security)

  • Plan and execute security systems software installation and upgrades.
  • Plan and execute CCTV footage backups and archives.
  • Troubleshoot CCTV software problems.
  • Register staff identity cards for access controls.
  • Plan and advise on Authority Access Control practice and strategy.
  • Research new software technologies.
  • Plan, install, and maintain hardware equipment.
  • Plan, install, and maintain the security system network infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot network problems.
  • Design surveillance camera placements to uphold security.
  • Plan, install, and maintain security fencing & PIDS.
  • Plan, install, and maintain radio infrastructure.
  • Ensure high availability of the network infrastructure and minimize surveillance camera outages.
  • Plan and maintain public address and general alarm systems.
  • Plan and execute CCTV footage investigation strategy.
  • Review CCTV footage daily and on demand for crime identification and evidence.

ICT Officer II (Scanner)

  • Receive radioscopic images on the Review Workstation (RIW) and confirm the container number matches the physical one.
  • Check that all required declaration and manifest information is attached.
  • Use RIW tools to compare the container's contents on the image with the declaration to decide if it conforms.
  • Issue a verdict and comment on whether the goods conform or are suspect.
  • Prepare and report on scanned and analyzed containers and goods.
  • Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.

Receptionist II

  • Receive and direct visitors to appropriate offices.
  • Issue visitors' passes.
  • Keep records of all visitors entering and leaving.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by a supervisor.

Office Assistant II

  • Clean tea accessories, and prepare and serve tea or coffee.
  • Clean offices, equipment, and the compound, and assist with gardening.
  • Open doors and windows in the morning, check and switch off electrical equipment, and lock office doors at the end of the day.
  • Take files, documents, and parcels to relevant offices or collect them as instructed.
  • Coordinate the collection and distribution of mail to and from the Post Office.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by a supervisor.

Security Guard II

  • Conduct physical security and surveillance at security gates, and for cargo, motor vehicles, and containers.
  • Check and ensure proper cargo delivery through the cargo system.
  • Operate Integrated Security Systems for surveillance and monitoring.
  • Secure premises by patrolling, monitoring surveillance equipment, inspecting buildings, and controlling access points.
  • Watch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or hazards.
  • Observe departing personnel to prevent theft and ensure authorized property removal.
  • Aid customers, employees, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by a supervisor.

Security Officer II

  • Prepare rosters and allocate duties to Port Security Guards.
  • Supervise the daily punctual attendance of subordinates.
  • Prevent and protect cargo from damage, theft, and pilferage.
  • Maintain discipline and ensure staff don't leave their posts without permission.
  • Supervise security guards and ensure they provide efficient service.
  • Prepare requisitions for materials needed by the unit.
  • Assist in conducting regular security inspections.
  • Assist in interpreting and implementing policies, standards, norms, and procedures.

Hydrographer II

  • Assist in maintaining hydrographic survey systems (equipment and software).
  • Assist in installing and calibrating hydrographic survey systems.
  • Assist in establishing geodetic controls for hydrographic survey works.
  • Assist in controlling and monitoring data quality during hydrographic surveys.
  • Assist in conducting hydrographic surveys (bathymetric data acquisition and processing).
  • Assist in conducting oceanographic measurements (currents, waves, tides).
  • Assist in conducting calibrations and maintenance of tide gauges.
  • Assist in positioning and maintaining Aids to Navigation positions.

Diver II

  • Assist in implementing rescue plans as required.

  • Appraise management on safety conditions at the quay and other shallow waters.

Engine Room Assistant II

  • Work within the daily work schedule.
  • Maintain the tug logbook, showing engine and auxiliary running hours and tug movements.
  • Ensure routine maintenance of machineries is carried out as per the planned schedule.

Eastern Africa Statistical Training Centre (EASTC) Positions

Assistant Lecturer (Actuarial Statistics & Data Science)

  • Teach up to NTA level 8 (Bachelor Degree).
  • Assist senior staff in practicals, seminars, and tutorials up to NTA Level 9 as part of capacity building.
  • Prepare learning resources for tutorial exercises.
  • Conduct research, seminars, and case studies.
  • Carry out consultancy and community services under supervision.
