358,322 minimum Wage for the Private Sector

The Government, through the Prime Minister's Office of Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities, has announced the new minimum wage for the private sector, which will now be TSh 358,322, up from TSh 275,060, an increase of 33.4 percent.

This new wage will officially take effect on January 1, 2026. The law requires a review of the minimum wage every three years, and the last announcement was made in 2022.
Announcing the new wage on Friday, October 17, 2025, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities), Ridhiwani Kikwete, stated that the increase is a legal requirement.

"I urge all employers in the private sector to observe and implement this new minimum wage as it is a legal requirement. My office will not hesitate to take action against employers who defy or deliberately fail to implement this order," he said.

"Furthermore, my office will continue to closely monitor the implementation of this order, provide education to employers and employees, and conduct regular assessments to ensure its full implementation."
This follows a previous increase in the minimum wage for public servants by 35.1% (from TSh 370,000 to TSh 500,000), which was announced by President Samia Suluhu Hassan during the International Workers' Day commemoration in Singida this past May.
