EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Mkwawa Leaf Tobacco Limited (MLTL) invites applications from suitable and qualified candidates to fill vacant positions of Forestry Area Supervisor in the Agronomy Department.

FORESTRY AREA SUPERVISOR (3 POSITIONS)

(i) Roles and Responsibilities:
• Create awareness and promote adoption of Community-Based Forest Management (CBFM) by Village Councils, Village General Assemblies, and District Councils.
• Facilitate the formation of Village Natural Resources Committees and Joint Natural Resources Committees where relevant.
• Provide capacity building to Village Natural Resources Committees on forest management.
• Facilitate the formulation and enforcement of village bylaws.
• Facilitate, in collaboration with forestry owners, the development of forest management plans.
• Facilitate approval of forest management plans by Village Councils and registration by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.
• Provide capacity building for nursery service providers contracted by primary societies.
• Train GAP Technicians on forestry practices.
• Train farmers on seedling handling, land preparation, tree planting, and tree management.
• Train farmers on sustainable fuelwood sourcing.
• Effectively plan and supervise all forestry activities at area level.
• Supervise the collection of forestry data by Field Technicians.
• Collect forestry data and evidence used by farmers to source wood, including requests, harvesting permits, transit passes, delivery notes, proof of fuelwood levy payment, licenses, receipts, and related documents.

(ii) Personal Attributes:
• Solution-oriented with a strong desire to solve problems.
• Energetic, proactive, and self-driven, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and external factors.
• High integrity and professionalism, demonstrating ethical and moral standards and personal accountability.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within teams and across departments to achieve common goals.

(iii) Knowledge, Experience, and Qualifications:
• Minimum of one year experience in natural forestry or plantation forestry programs.
• At least a Diploma in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Botany, or a related field.
• Familiarity with Community-Based Forest Management (CBFM) practices.
• Previous experience in the tobacco industry will be an added advantage.

(iv) Reporting:
• The incumbent will report to the Agronomy Area Coordinator on day-to-day activities and to the Forestry and Sustainability Coordinator on technical matters.

(v) Location:
• Sikonge and Kahama.

(vi) Remuneration:
• The salary offered is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
