ABOUT THE POSITION

The U.S. Mission in Tanzania is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Chauffeur for the Marine Security Guards (MSG).

The successful candidate will operate U.S. Government vehicles, transport personnel and cargo, ensure passenger safety and comfort, maintain assigned vehicles, and provide messenger services when required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Chauffeur Duties (70%)

  • Operate official vehicles within Dar es Salaam and on upcountry assignments.
  • Transport personnel safely and efficiently.
  • Assist passengers with luggage and other materials.
  • Deliver documents, invitations, and official correspondence.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and provide courteous service.
  • Serve as a backup Truck Driver when required.

Vehicle Operations and Maintenance (20%)

  • Ensure safe operation of assigned vehicles.
  • Load and unload cargo safely.
  • Maintain security of cargo during transit.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections before, during, and after trips.
  • Report mechanical defects promptly.
  • Ensure adequate fuel, oil, and coolant levels.
  • Deliver vehicles for scheduled preventive maintenance.

Reporting Duties (10%)

  • Complete trip tickets and vehicle inspection reports.
  • Record fuel purchases in ILMS/FMIS.
  • Maintain daily vehicle inspection logs.
  • Report accidents immediately.
  • Prepare accident reports when necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Completion of Primary School is required.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of passenger-driving experience in a government institution or private organization.

Language Requirements

  • Level III (Good Working Knowledge) in English.
  • Level III (Good Working Knowledge) in Kiswahili.

Language proficiency may be tested.

Job Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Tanzanian traffic laws and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of roads and streets in Dar es Salaam.
  • Basic automobile mechanical knowledge.

Skills and Abilities

  • Valid Tanzanian Driver’s License Classes B, C, D, and E.
  • No accident record during the past three years.
  • Basic computer skills.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES

Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain:

  • Security Certificate
  • Medical Certificate

All selected candidates will undergo a background investigation and pre-employment medical examination.
