About Reforest Africa

Reforest Africa is recruiting two Kilolo Restoration Officers to support the implementation of a new forest restoration programme in Kilolo District, Iringa Region, Tanzania. The successful candidates will work with the Reforest Africa Management Team to oversee day-to-day implementation of reforestation and conservation projects, including restoring degraded village forests and conserving the Kising’a Lugarlo Forest Reserve in collaboration with the Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS).

Reforest Africa is a registered Non-Governmental Organization in Tanzania (INGO/R/0826) and a UK registered charity. Established from a research collaboration between UK universities and Sokoine University of Agriculture, the organization focuses on delivering practical conservation solutions that benefit both communities and the environment.

About the Organization

Reforest Africa has successfully:

• Established the 2,600-hectare Magombera Nature Forest Reserve.
• Planted over 400,000 native trees.
• Trained more than 1,200 community members in fuel-efficient cookstove use.
• Established five school eco-clubs to promote environmental awareness.

Key Responsibilities

The Kilolo Restoration Officer will:

• Oversee restoration projects in Kilolo District.
• Coordinate and supervise daily field restoration activities.
• Develop framework species lists with technical teams.
• Support tree nursery establishment, seed collection, seedling production, and tree planting.
• Monitor tree survival, growth, and maintenance.
• Assist in forest protection and wildfire prevention.
• Support biodiversity monitoring and wildlife habitat conservation.
• Conduct field inspections and restoration data collection.
• Maintain phenology records.
• Develop seed germination protocols.
• Prepare field and monthly progress reports.
• Train and mobilize local communities on sustainable forest management.
• Work with Village Natural Resource Committees and local government authorities.
• Support GPS mapping and restoration site assessments.
• Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards.
• Participate in stakeholder meetings and field evaluations.
• Support carbon project development.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Project Manager.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must possess a:

• Certificate or Diploma in Forestry, Forest Management, Wildlife Management, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Management, or a closely related field.

Required Experience

Applicants should have:

• At least one year of field experience in forestry, restoration, conservation, community development, or natural resource management.
• Fresh graduates with strong field skills are encouraged to apply.
• Experience in financial management and budgeting.
• Experience in training teams.
• Experience in equitable and good governance approaches.

Desirable Experience

• Protected area management.
• Forest patrols.
• Tree nursery management.
• Development of management plans.
• Village land-use planning.
• Social safeguarding.

Required Skills

Applicants should demonstrate:

• Knowledge of forest restoration and sustainable forest management.
• Understanding of wildlife conservation and biodiversity.
• Ability to establish and manage tree nurseries.
• Knowledge of forest fire prevention and control.
• Strong communication and community mobilization skills.
• Ability to collect field data and prepare reports.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience using GPS and mobile data collection tools (an advantage).
• Ability to plan and execute forest patrols.
• Ability to work independently in remote rural environments.
• Strong teamwork, integrity, and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions

• Frequent travel within Kilolo District and surrounding project sites.
• Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions.
• Occasional weekend or extended field assignments may be required.
