The Global Methane Hub (GMH) is seeking a qualified and experienced professional for the position of Regional Lead – Africa. This is a full-time remote leadership opportunity for candidates with strong experience in climate, environment, energy, public policy, stakeholder engagement, and regional strategy development.
The Regional Lead – Africa will serve as the organisation’s principal representative and strategic advisor in Africa, building partnerships, strengthening methane mitigation efforts, and supporting initiatives aimed at reducing methane emissions across the continent.

Position Overview
The Regional Lead – Africa will act as the main representative of Global Methane Hub across Africa and provide strategic guidance on methane mitigation opportunities.
The role focuses on:
- Building influential partnerships across Africa.
- Strengthening relationships with governments, NGOs, research institutions, donors, and private sector organisations.
- Providing regional intelligence to guide GMH strategies.
- Supporting methane reduction initiatives through partnerships, grants, and collaboration.
- Increasing awareness and leadership around methane mitigation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Regional Representation and Stakeholder Engagement
The Regional Lead will:
- Represent Global Methane Hub in methane mitigation initiatives across Africa.
- Develop and maintain relationships with government agencies, civil society organisations, research institutions, and private sector partners.
- Represent GMH at conferences, policy discussions, scientific events, and stakeholder meetings.
- Promote GMH’s methane reduction mission through public speaking and strategic engagement.
- Build partnerships with climate organisations and regional networks.
- Support participation in global climate platforms and events.
2. Strategic Advisory and Regional Analysis
Responsibilities include:
- Provide African regional perspectives to GMH global strategies.
- Analyse political, policy, and stakeholder environments.
- Advise programme teams on opportunities and risks.
- Monitor methane-related policies, regulations, and climate developments.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration with governments and partners.
- Provide strategic recommendations to organisational leadership.
3. Strategy Development and Implementation
The successful candidate will:
- Support development of Africa’s methane mitigation strategy.
- Design initiatives that strengthen methane reduction efforts.
- Support strategic seed grants for emerging organisations and projects.
- Connect successful initiatives with larger funding opportunities.
- Organise workshops, meetings, and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Build communities of practice around methane reduction.
4. Collaboration and Communication
The role includes:
- Providing updates and reports to leadership and donors.
- Sharing regional developments affecting GMH strategies.
- Supporting programme teams with regional knowledge.
- Identifying organisations aligned with GMH objectives.
- Helping teams understand African political and cultural contexts.
5. Financial Management
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring compliance with organisational and donor financial requirements.
- Supporting budget planning and monitoring.
- Tracking regional project budgets and expenses.
- Preparing expense reports and financial documentation.
- Advising leadership on resource allocation.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have:
- At least 8 years of progressive experience in stakeholder engagement, strategy, public affairs, climate, environment, energy, or related fields.
- Strong experience working across Africa.
- Experience representing organisations in high-level meetings and public forums.
- Experience developing and implementing strategies.
- Experience with grants or seed funding is an advantage.
- Understanding of methane mitigation, climate solutions, and environmental issues.
- Ability to work in complex and changing environments.
Educational Requirements
Candidates should have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Public Policy, International Relations, Development Studies, or related fields.
An advanced degree is preferred.
Skills and Competencies
