Program Officer at GHGMI: Help Shape the Future of Global Climate Action
The fight against climate change needs skilled professionals who can bridge the gap between technical expertise and real-world policy implementation. The Greenhouse Gas Management Institute (GHGMI) is seeking a Program Officer to support the design, implementation, and management of international climate change and greenhouse gas (GHG) capacity-building initiatives.
This fully remote role offers the opportunity to work on technically rigorous projects that strengthen measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems, GHG inventories, mitigation planning, transparency, and climate governance around the world.
What You'll Do
As a Program Officer, you'll play a central role in supporting multiple donor-funded projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Program and Project Support: Developing project work plans, tracking deliverables, organizing technical working groups, and coordinating with internal staff and external partners.
- Grant Management: Coordinating grant reporting, ensuring adherence to donor finance policies, and maintaining positive relationships with funders.
- New Business Development: Participating in and leading new grant proposal opportunities.
- Technical Delivery: Researching, analyzing, and drafting technical content for reports, papers, and guides; developing capacity-building training materials on MRV topics.
- External Representation: Managing relationships with partners and senior government stakeholders, representing GHGMI externally, and providing thought leadership through presentations and publications.

What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, economics, public policy, climate science, international development, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of relevant work experience supporting climate change, GHG accounting, MRV, or international development projects.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated experience supporting donor-funded international projects.
- Strong project planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Exceptional technical writing and editing skills.
- Experience preparing technical reports and donor deliverables.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote international environment.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Willingness to travel internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience supporting implementation of the Paris Agreement, Enhanced Transparency Framework, or national climate reporting.
- Experience developing GHG inventories or mitigation assessments.
- Experience with carbon markets or adaptation measurement and reporting.
- Experience designing and delivering technical training.
- Familiarity with GHG accounting software, analytical models, and MRV tools.
- Experience working with international consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience developing successful grant proposals.
- Fluency in French and/or Spanish.

The Opportunity
GHGMI is by design a remote, work-from-home organization, giving you the chance to learn from leading experts in the field and gain experience with large, internationally funded grants and contracts. The organization offers competitive compensation and a generous paid time-off policy.
Compensation: US$60,000 – US$79,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
