The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) invites applications from qualified Tanzanians to fill three (3) positions of Laboratory Technologists for a collaborative research study focusing on anemia in pregnancy.
1. POSITION DETAILS
- Job Title: Laboratory Technologist

- Reporting To: Laboratory Manager / Study Coordinator
- Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
- Duration: 12 months (renewable depending on performance and availability of funds)

2. ABOUT THE PROJECT
MUHAS, in collaboration with IHI and AAPH, is conducting a maternal health research study aimed at addressing the burden of anemia in pregnancy. The project seeks to recruit experienced Laboratory Technologists to support laboratory-related tasks and ensure adherence to research protocols and laboratory standards.
3. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Successful candidates will be expected to:
- Collect, process, and prepare biological samples for transportation to the MUHAS Clinical Research Laboratory (MCRL).
- Ensure proper labeling, handling, storage, and tracking of samples.
- Prepare reagents and perform laboratory tests following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain laboratory equipment and promptly report any malfunctions.
- Keep detailed records of sample collection, processing, and shipment.
- Collaborate with research staff to ensure efficient workflow.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
4. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants must have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Technology from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the Health Laboratory Practitioners Council (HLPC).
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant laboratory experience, preferably in a research setting.
5. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
- Skilled in blood sample collection and laboratory processing.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Familiarity with Good Clinical and Laboratory Practices (GCLP).
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in data documentation and sample tracking.
