Shanta Mining Company Limited intends to recruit suitably qualified and experienced personnel for the commencement of underground mining operations at Singida Gold Mine.

Singida Gold Mine is entering a new phase of development involving the establishment of underground mining infrastructure, including portal development, decline excavation and associated underground mine development activities. To support this expansion from open-pit to underground mining, the Company invites applications for the following positions.

This recruitment offers successful candidates an opportunity to be part of the team establishing and developing a new underground mining operation from its early stages.

Duty Station:
Singida Gold Mine, Ikungi District, Singida Region.

Available Positions

  1. Mine Superintendent (1 Post)

Role Purpose

  • To manage and coordinate all aspects of underground mine operations to achieve regulatory, safety, production and cost targets while ensuring that mining activities support the short-, medium- and long-term operational requirements of Singida Gold Mine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all underground mining operations, ensuring that production and development activities align with mine plans and achieve safety, production, cost and operational targets.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Mine Captains and underground operational teams.
  • Monitor operational performance, address constraints and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, mine plans, Company policies and safety, health and environmental standards.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
  • Underground mine management or statutory competency certification is an added advantage.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
  • Valid blasting and dangerous goods certificates are preferable.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in an underground mining environment.
  • Extensive supervisory and operational management experience, preferably in a gold mining environment.

2. Mine Captain (2 Posts)

Role Purpose

  • Coordinate and oversee underground mining operations to achieve production and development plans safely, efficiently and cost-effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate underground production and development activities.
  • Lead Shift Supervisors and underground crews.
  • Monitor operational performance and report safety and production matters.
  • Ensure compliance with mine plans, Company procedures and statutory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate of Advanced Secondary Education or equivalent.
  • Diploma in Mining Engineering or related discipline is preferable.
  • Underground supervisory competency or certification is preferable.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
  • Valid blasting and dangerous goods certificates are preferable.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years' underground mining experience, including at least five (5) years in a supervisory role.

3. Shift Supervisor (2 Posts)

Role Purpose

  • Supervise and coordinate underground mining activities during assigned shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise underground production and development activities.
  • Lead underground crews and allocate personnel and equipment.
  • Monitor shift performance and report operational matters.
  • Ensure compliance with Company procedures and safety standards.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate of Advanced Secondary Education or equivalent.
  • Relevant mining technical qualification or supervisory certification is preferable.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
  • Valid blasting and dangerous goods certificates are preferable.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' underground mining experience, including three (3) years in a supervisory role.

4. Underground Mine Surveyor (1 Post)

Role Purpose

  • Provide survey control services for underground and surface mining activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain survey control networks.
  • Conduct underground development surveys.
  • Process survey data and maintain mine plans.
  • Provide survey support to mining teams.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or Advanced Diploma in Mine Surveying Technology or equivalent.
  • Professional registration or recognised survey certification is preferable.
  • Proficiency in mine design/CAD software, preferably Deswik.
  • Competency with Leica survey equipment, CMS and GPS.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' mine surveying experience in open-pit and underground mining.

5. Graduate Underground Mining Engineer (1 Post)

Role Purpose

  • Support underground mining engineering activities while developing practical skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with mine planning, scheduling and technical reports.
  • Conduct underground inspections and analyse operational data.
  • Provide technical support to underground operations.
  • Participate in workplace learning and development.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of mine design and scheduling software.
  • Good computer, report writing and presentation skills.
  • Mining internship or practical training is an advantage.
  • Willingness to work in a physically and mentally demanding underground environment.

6. Jumbo Operator (3 Posts)

Role Purpose

  • Safely operate jumbo drilling equipment for underground development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate jumbo drilling equipment.
  • Carry out drilling, scaling and ground support activities.
  • Conduct equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
  • Maintain drilling and shift records.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate of Advanced Secondary Education or equivalent.
  • Recognised competency in underground jumbo operation.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
  • Valid blasting and dangerous goods certificates are preferable.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' recent underground hard-rock mining experience.
  • Experience operating Atlas Copco, Sandvik or similar equipment.
  • Ability to interpret underground mine plans.

7. Development – Charge-up (3 Posts)

Role Purpose

  • Prepare, charge and fire underground drill holes safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and fire development and production blasts.
  • Handle explosives and detonators safely.
  • Conduct blast tie-ins and inspections.
  • Complete blasting documentation.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate of Ordinary Secondary Education or equivalent.
  • Valid blasting certificate.
  • Valid dangerous goods certification.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' underground charge-up experience.
  • Proven safe blasting practices.

8. Loader Operator (2 Posts)

Role Purpose

  • Operate underground loaders for ore and waste movement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate underground loaders safely.
  • Perform material handling and support underground operations.
  • Conduct inspections and report maintenance needs.
  • Maintain production records.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate of Ordinary Secondary Education or equivalent.
  • Competency in underground loader operation.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
  • Tele-remote competency where applicable.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' underground loader experience.
  • Twelve (12) months' tele-remote experience where required.

9. Truck Operator (3 Posts)

Role Purpose

  • Operate underground haulage equipment safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport ore and waste underground.
  • Conduct equipment inspections.
  • Follow haulage routes and communication procedures.
  • Maintain production and equipment records.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate of Ordinary Secondary Education or equivalent.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
  • Competency in underground truck operation.
  • Minimum of one (1) year's underground mining experience.
  • Experience operating underground trucks or similar heavy equipment.

10. Service Crew (3 Posts)

Role Purpose

  • Install and maintain underground mining services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain ventilation, water, paste and power infrastructure.
  • Inspect and repair underground service systems.
  • Prepare tools and materials.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate of Ordinary Secondary Education or equivalent.
  • Technical or vocational training is advantageous.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
  • Working-at-height competency.
  • Minimum of one (1) year's underground mining or industrial services experience.
  • Experience with underground service installation is advantageous.

11. Nipper (2 Posts)

Role Purpose

  • Support jumbo operators and underground mining crews.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with drilling support and production activities.
  • Prepare and transport tools and equipment.
  • Support underground work area preparation.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate of Ordinary Secondary Education or equivalent.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
  • Previous underground mining experience is an advantage.

All successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, integrity, teamwork and operational excellence. They must comply with Company policies, procedures and applicable laws and be capable of working effectively in an underground mining environment. Position-specific licences, certifications, competencies and site inductions will apply where required.
