1.0 ABOUT THE AGENCY

The Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) is an Executive Agency under the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government, established by the Executive Agencies Act Cap. 245. TARURA was inaugurated on 2 July 2017 following the publication of Government Notice No. 211 on 12 May 2017. The Agency was established to oversee the development and maintenance of district road networks.

TARURA is responsible for managing the development, rehabilitation, maintenance, axle load control, environmental management, and road reserve management of rural and urban road networks for the socio-economic development of Tanzania.

The TARURA Regional Manager for Njombe, on behalf of the Chief Executive, invites applications from self-motivated, qualified, and competent Tanzanians to fill the following vacant positions on temporary contracts for a period of one (1) year (12 months).


2.0 POSITION TITLE: OFFICE MANAGEMENT SECRETARY II (2 POSTS)

Duty Stations:

  • Njombe District
  • Ludewa District

Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be holders of a Form IV National Certificate.
  • Hold a Diploma in Secretarial Studies (NTA Level 6).
  • Have passed English and Swahili shorthand at a speed of 80 words per minute.
  • Be proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, Internet, E-mail, and MS Publisher from a recognized institution.
  • Be fluent in both English and Swahili.

Work Experience

Applicants must have at least one (1) year of working experience in a related field.

Salary

According to TARURA Salary Scale.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Handle confidential and important documents, including filing, indexing, and other normal office practices.
  • Type, download, print, and distribute documents to relevant officers.
  • Receive and direct telephone calls and respond to telephone messages, emails, and faxes.
  • Organize and maintain appointment diaries.
  • Handle correspondence and letter writing.
  • Organize and store paperwork, documents, and computer-based information.
  • Ensure office equipment and machines under their custody are properly maintained.

3.0 POSITION TITLE: DRIVER (2 POSTS)

Duty Stations:

  • Njombe Regional Manager’s Office
  • Wanging’ombe District

Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be holders of a Form IV National Certificate.
  • Possess a valid Class C or E Driving License.
  • Have attended a Basic Driving Course offered by VETA, NIT, or any other recognized institution, with relevant training certificates.
  • Be fluent in both English and Swahili.

Work Experience

Applicants must have at least one (1) year of driving experience without causing road accidents.

Salary

According to TARURA Salary Scale.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive Agency motor vehicles in accordance with road traffic rules and regulations.
  • Inspect vehicles before and after each journey to identify maintenance or repair requirements.
  • Transport staff to official destinations as assigned.
  • Ensure the vehicle and its equipment (jack, spanner, spare tyre, etc.) are available and in good condition.
  • Carry out minor and routine vehicle maintenance.
  • Ensure vehicle doors and windows are properly locked and secured at all times.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle at all times.
  • Record and maintain journey records in the logbook.
  • Assist in collecting and dispatching mail.
  • Report any accident immediately to the supervisor and Traffic Police.

4.0 GENERAL CONDITIONS

  • All applicants must be Tanzanian citizens aged not above 45 years.
  • Applicants must attach an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV) with reliable contacts, postal address, email address, telephone numbers, and contacts of three reputable referees.
  • Applicants must attach certified copies of:
    • Form IV National Examination Certificate.
    • Professional Certificates.
    • Birth Certificate.
    • Driving License (for Driver applicants).
  • Applicants must attach a recent passport-size photograph.
  • Provisional Results, Statement of Results, Form IV Result Slips, Transcripts, and Testimonials are strictly not accepted.
  • All foreign academic certificates must be recognized by the relevant authorities (TCU, NECTA, and NACTVET).
  • Applicants currently employed in the Public Service must channel their application letters through their respective employers.
  • Applicants must quote the correct reference number of the advertisement in their application letters.
  • The deadline for submitting applications is 20 July, 2026 at 16:00 Hours.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and informed of the interview date.
  • Applicants with a known history of underperformance in any Government institution will not be considered.
