Scholarships Tenable in the Government of Japan for the 2026/2027 Academic Year Under GRIPS Programmes

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is pleased to inform the public that the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Japan, has opened applications for a range of fully funded and partially funded postgraduate scholarship programmes for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. These scholarships are offered through various funding schemes supported by the Government of Japan, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the World Bank, and other development partners.

Available Programmes

The scholarships are available for Master’s and Doctoral (PhD) studies in a wide range of fields, including:

  • Public Policy
  • Public Administration
  • Public Finance
  • Economics
  • Governance
  • International Development
  • Policy Analysis
  • Science, Technology and Innovation Policy

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be citizens of eligible countries.
  • Possess relevant academic qualifications from recognized institutions.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English.
  • Meet the specific eligibility requirements of the selected programme.
  • Some programmes may also require relevant professional work experience and have age limitations.

Scholarship Coverage

Depending on the scholarship scheme, successful applicants may receive:

  • Full tuition fee coverage
  • Monthly living allowance
  • Round-trip international airfare
  • Settlement and relocation allowances
  • Health insurance
  • Other benefits as specified under individual scholarship programmes

  2. Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP)
  3. Japan-WCO Human Resource Development Programme
  4. JICA Scholarship (SDGs Global Leader)
  5. JICA Scholarship (Master’s Degree and Internship Program of African Business Education Initiative for Youth)
  6. JICA Scholarship (Capacity Development for Officials of the Ministry of Finance through PhD and Master’s Degree Programs)
