JOB VACANCIES ANNOUNCEMENT

The Judicial Service Commission is a body established under Article 112(1) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, 1977. In addition, Article 113 of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, read together with the Court Administration Act, Cap. 237, gives the Judicial Service Commission various responsibilities, including employing staff of the Judiciary of Tanzania in various cadres.

Therefore, the Judicial Service Commission invites applications from qualified Tanzanians who meet the qualifications specified below for each vacant position and who are ready to work in the Judiciary of Tanzania in various regions and districts across the country. Applicants are required to carefully read the information contained in Section 7.0 of this announcement before submitting their applications.

1.0 RESIDENT MAGISTRATE II – TJS II (3 POSTS)

1.1 Entry Qualifications

Applicants must possess a Certificate of Secondary Education (Form IV/Form VI), a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a university or higher learning institution recognized by the Government, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law School of Tanzania. Applicants with a certificate in computer training will be given priority.

1.2 Duties and Responsibilities

(i) Prepare a schedule for hearing preliminary proceedings in criminal and civil cases;
(ii) Hear preliminary criminal and civil cases;
(iii) Hear preliminary matrimonial and probate cases;
(iv) Prepare and deliver judgments in all cases heard;
(v) Issue various lawful judicial orders;
(vi) Mediate and settle cases;
(vii) Hear appeals from Ward Tribunals;
(viii) Conduct legal research and provide legal advice; and
(ix) Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

2.0 ACCOUNTANT II – TGS. D (3 POSTS)

2.1 Entry Qualifications

Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:

(i) An Intermediate Certificate (Module D) issued by NBAA or another equivalent qualification recognized by NBAA; or
(ii) A Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Arts with specialization in Accounting; or
(iii) An Advanced Diploma in Accounting from any Government-recognized institution.

2.2 Duties and Responsibilities

(i) Participate in preparing income and expenditure statements;
(ii) Assist the Accountant in preparing revenue reports;
(iii) Participate in bank reconciliations and other activities related to financial matters;
(iv) Prepare various payroll reports;
(v) Prepare payment vouchers and receipt vouchers;
(vi) Maintain the deposit register;
(vii) Perform other duties related to the field as assigned by the supervisor.

3.0 ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT II – TGS. B (9 POSTS)

3.1 Entry Qualifications

Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:

(i) A Certificate in Accounting from a Government-recognized college; or
(ii) ATEC I Certificate issued by NBAA or another equivalent qualification recognized by NBAA.

3.2 Duties and Responsibilities

(i) Maintain the cash book for recurrent and development expenditure;
(ii) Maintain payment voucher records;
(iii) Record income and expenditure in financial books;
(iv) Prepare various reports on funds received;
(v) Perform other duties related to the field as assigned by the supervisor.

4.0 RECORDS ASSISTANT II – TGS C (97 POSTS)

4.1 Entry Qualifications

Applicants must be Form IV or Form VI graduates with a Diploma or NTA Level 6 qualification in any of the following fields: Records Management or Law, from Government-recognized institutions, and must possess computer skills.

4.2 Duties and Responsibilities

(a) General Registry

(i) Register incoming letters in the registry;
(ii) Register outgoing letters from the institution;
(iii) Distribute files to officers;
(iv) Receive files returned to the registry from officers;
(v) Return files to the filing cabinets;
(vi) Monitor the movement of institutional files.

(b) Court

(i) Receive documents or letters relating to the opening of criminal and civil cases;
(ii) Prepare summonses relating to civil and criminal cases;
(iii) Prepare weekly case lists and maintain files for ongoing cases.

5.0 OFFICE ASSISTANT/SECRETARY II – TGS C (9 POSTS)

5.1 Entry Qualifications

Applicants must be Form IV or Form VI graduates with a Diploma in Secretarial Studies or an NTA Level 6 Certificate in Secretarial Studies. In addition, applicants must have passed the Kiswahili and English shorthand/typing test at 100 words per minute and have knowledge of office computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, E-mail and Publisher from any Government-recognized institution.

5.2 Duties and Responsibilities

(i) Type letters, reports and ordinary and confidential documents;
(ii) Receive visitors, assess their needs and direct them to the appropriate offices;
(iii) Maintain information and records of events, appointments, visitors, meeting dates, official trips and other work schedules of the supervisor;
(iv) Search for files and documents required for the execution of duties;
(v) Receive files and distribute them to officers in the relevant Department/Unit/Section;
(vi) Collect, maintain and return files and documents to the respective places;
(vii) Arrange agenda items and make preparations for various meetings.

6.0 OFFICE ASSISTANT – TGOS. A (84 POSTS)

6.1 Entry Qualifications

Applicants must be Form IV graduates who have attended short courses in any of the following areas: Office Attendant Course, Office Management, Messengerial Course or Office Clerk from any Government-recognized institution.

6.2 Duties and Responsibilities

(i) Clean offices and the surrounding indoor and outdoor areas, including sweeping, dusting, mopping, cutting grass, weeding gardens, watering gardens, planting flowers or trees and cleaning toilets;
(ii) Deliver and collect files and other documents to and from the relevant officers and return them to the appropriate places;
(iii) Distribute office letters as instructed;
(iv) Prepare office tea;
(v) Deliver the postal bag and collect letters from the Post Office;
(vi) Ensure that office equipment is kept in the appropriate places;
(vii) Open office doors and windows in the morning and evening and close them after working hours;
(viii) Make photocopies of letters or publications using photocopying machines;
(ix) File copies of typed letters in the respective offices;
(x) Take care of office equipment and report whenever they are damaged.

7.0 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS IN ALL CADRES

(i) An applicant must be a Tanzanian citizen aged not less than 18 years and not more than 45 years, and must never have been convicted of any criminal offence or imprisoned;

(ii) All applications must be accompanied by certified copies of educational and training certificates, birth certificate, recent passport-size colour photograph and other documents according to the qualifications of the relevant cadre;

(iii) These are new employment opportunities; therefore, employees who are already permanently employed in the Public Service are not eligible to apply for these positions;

(iv) Applicants who pass the interview and are employed will become employees of the Judiciary of Tanzania and must be ready to be assigned to any station where there is a vacancy;

(v) Applicants who studied outside Tanzania must have their certificates verified by TCU/NACTVET. Failure to do so will result in their applications not being processed;

(vi) Applicants who have previously been terminated or dismissed from the Public Service should not apply;

(vii) Applicants who provide false information, for example regarding their age, education or previous places of employment, and this is discovered even after they have been employed, will be dismissed from employment and may also face serious legal action;

(viii) Applicants with disabilities will be given priority. Applicants should indicate the type of disability they have in their application letter and in the application system;

(ix) Any applicant who does not meet the qualifications specified for the relevant position or who fails to comply with any of the conditions listed in this announcement will not have their application processed;

(x) The deadline for submitting applications is 28 August, 2026;
