ABOUT THE POSITION

Jhpiego is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Medical Doctor (or equivalent) with a background in biostatistics, public health, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) to serve as an M&E Intern.

The intern will support the implementation and monitoring of project activities, contributing to evidence-based decision-making and the successful implementation of the BEAT Breast Cancer Project in Zanzibar.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Support data collection, entry, cleaning, analysis, and reporting related to breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and patient navigation services.

  2. Assist health facilities, Integrated Reproductive and Child Health (IRCH) and District Health Management Teams (DHMTs) in ensuring data quality and timely reporting.

  3. Participate in data verification visits and routine monitoring activities to strengthen data accuracy and completeness.

  4. Support healthcare providers in proper documentation and the use of data collection and reporting tools.

  5. Assist in tracking and following up confirmed breast cancer patients to support continuity of care and patient navigation services.

  6. Contribute to the preparation of project reports, presentations, and data summaries.

  7. Support the use and maintenance of digital health information systems and databases used by the project.

  8. Perform other M&E-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Medical degree (MD or equivalent) with demonstrated experience in biostatistics, public health, or M&E.

• At least 1 year of experience in health program monitoring and evaluation.

• Awareness of digital data management tools such as Microsoft Excel, ZanEMR, Microsoft SharePoint, DHIS2, and Power BI.

• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

• Willingness to travel to health facilities and outreach sites within Zanzibar, including Unguja and Pemba Islands.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

• Hands-on experience in health program implementation and evaluation.

• Experience in data analysis, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.

• Exposure to digital health information systems, including DHIS2, ZanEMR, and Power BI.

• Experience in data quality assurance, data visualization, and performance monitoring.

• Understanding of breast cancer prevention, early detection, and health systems strengthening.

• Experience participating in field visits, supportive supervision, and stakeholder coordination meetings.

• Experience working with government, development partners, and healthcare providers in a public health environment.
