Pamba Mara Cooperative Union Limited (PMCU Ltd) is a cooperative union operating in Mara Region and engaged in the collection, marketing and development of agricultural products and other cooperative economic activities.

To improve economic and social well-being of our members by providing efficient cooperative services, promoting agricultural production and marketing, adding value to agricultural products, and creating sustainable business and investment opportunities.

The Union invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced and motivated Tanzanian citizens for the following position:

  1. GENERAL MANAGER – 1 POST

1.1 Nature and Scope of the Position

The General Manager will be the Chief Executive Officer of the Union and will be responsible for the overall management and day-to-day operations of PMCU Ltd. The successful candidate will report to the Board of Directors and will be responsible for implementing the policies, strategic plans and decisions of the Board.

1.2 Duties and Responsibilities

The General Manager will be responsible for:

i. Implementing policies, resolutions and strategic decisions of the Board members;

ii. Preparing and implementing Union's strategic and business plans;

iii. Managing day-to-day operations and affairs of the Union;

iv. Developing and expanding profitable business opportunities for the Union;

v. Overseeing the collection, processing, marketing and sale of agricultural products handled by the Union;

vi. Ensuring effective financial management and proper utilization of the Union's resources;

vii. Preparing annual budgets and monitoring expenditure against approved budgets;

x. Supervising, motivating and developing Union employees to achieve organizational objectives;

xi. Establishing and maintaining good relationships with member cooperatives, farmers, government authorities, financial institutions, development partners and other stakeholders;

xii. Identifying investment opportunities and mobilizing resources for the growth and development of the Union;

xiii. Ensuring proper management and protection of the Union's assets;

xiv. Monitoring the performance of the Union's projects, businesses and subsidiaries;

xv. Promoting good corporate governance, accountability, transparency and ethical conduct within the Union; and

xvi. Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by the Board of Directors.

1.3 Qualifications and Experience

The applicant should:

i. Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Cooperative Management, Accounting and Finance, Economics, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agroeconomics and Business Administration majoring in Accounting and Finance or another relevant field from a recognized institution.

ii. Possession of a Master's Degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage.

iii. Have at least three (3) years of relevant working experience, including experience in a managerial or senior supervisory position.

iv. Have proven knowledge and experience in cooperative management, agricultural marketing, agribusiness or related business operations.

v. Demonstrate strong financial management, leadership, strategic planning and business development skills.

vi. Have good knowledge of relevant cooperative laws, regulations and sectoral.

vii. Possess excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

viii. Be computer literate and able to use common office applications effectively.

ix. Be highly motivated, trustworthy, innovative and capable of working with minimum supervision.

x. Experience working with cooperatives or related institutions will be an added advantage.

  1. CHIEF ACCOUNTANT – 1 POST

2.1 Nature and Scope of the Position

The Chief Accountant will be responsible for maintaining proper books of accounts, preparing financial reports, managing financial transactions and supporting effective financial management of PMCU Ltd. The successful candidate will report to the General Manager and work closely with management and other departments to ensure proper adherence to financial controls and compliance with applicable laws, regulations and accounting standards.

2.2 Duties and Responsibilities

The Chief Accountant will be responsible for:

i. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date books of accounts and accounting records;

ii. Recording and processing financial transactions in accordance with approved procedures;

iii. Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports;

iv. Preparing bank reconciliations and monitoring cash and bank balances;

v. Preparing payment vouchers, receipts, journals and other accounting documents;

vi. Monitoring accounts payable and accounts receivable;

vii. Coordinate preparation and monitoring of the Union's annual budget;

viii. Ensuring proper filing and safe custody of accounting and financial documents;

ix. Preparing statutory returns and ensuring timely submission of relevant tax obligations;

x. Coordinate preparation of financial statements for audit purposes;

xi. Liaising with external and internal auditors and provide required financial information;

xii. Monitoring expenditure and ensuring that payments are properly authorized and supported by relevant documents;

xiii. Maintaining proper records of Union assets and asset verification;

xiv. Ensuring compliance with accounting policies, financial procedures and applicable laws and regulations;

xv. Providing financial information and advice to management whenever required; and

xvi. Performing any other accounting-related duties as may be assigned by the General Manager.

2.3 Qualifications and Experience

The applicant should:

i. Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field from a recognized institution.

ii. Must be a holder of CPA(T), ACCA or an equivalent professional accounting qualification. Candidates who are pursuing professional accounting qualifications may also be considered, subject to the terms set by PMCU Ltd.

iii. Have at least three (3) years of relevant working experience in a reputable organization.

iv. Have good knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting and financial management.

v. Have knowledge of local taxation policies and other statutory obligations.

vi. Be competent in accounting software and Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.

vii. Have strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.

viii. Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.

ix. Experience in a cooperatives or related institution will be an added advantage.
