EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Shinyanga Region Co-operative Union (1984) Ltd is a secondary-level Farmers’ Co-operative Society established in 1984. The Union is located in Shinyanga Municipality and comprises a total of 107 Primary Co-operative Societies (AMCOS) with 38,178 farmers, primarily engaged in the cultivation of cotton and other mixed crops including legumes such as peas and chickpeas.

Since its inception, SHIRECU (1984) Ltd has grown into a strong and autonomous co-operative organization and is currently undertaking major socio-economic transformation initiatives. In this regard, the Union invites applications from suitably qualified, skilled, and competent Tanzanians to fill the following vacant positions:

1.0 OPERATIONS MANAGER (1 POST)

Nature and Scope
The successful candidate will report to the General Manager and will be responsible for all operational issues related to production, logistics, storage, processing, and marketing of Union members’ products.

Duties and Responsibilities
i. Advise the General Manager on all activities relating to crop production and operations;
ii. Manage stores and warehouses for crop production inputs;
iii. Plan and implement all procurement and logistics for cotton farming and other related crops;
iv. Coordinate and manage marketing activities for crops;
v. Receive, analyze, and act on information regarding production, processing, and marketing of members’ products;
vi. Provide training to farmers through field and extension officers to enhance productivity;
vii. Champion campaigns promoting value addition along the agricultural value chain;
viii. Prepare seasonal budgets for farm input requirements;
ix. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the General Manager.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
i. Bachelor’s Degree in General Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agro-Economics, or a related discipline from a recognized higher learning institution (Master’s Degree will be an added advantage);
ii. Minimum of two (2) years relevant working experience in a similar position in a reputable organization.

2.0 HUMAN RESOURCE AND ADMINISTRATION MANAGER (1 POST)

Nature and Scope
The successful candidate will report to the General Manager and will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight in Human Resource Management and Administration functions. The position ensures efficient service delivery in administrative operations, staff management, and organizational development to support the achievement of institutional goals.

Duties and Responsibilities
i. Advise the General Manager on all matters relating to human resource management;
ii. Manage the recruitment process;
iii. Coordinate implementation of the client service charter;
iv. Manage compensation and benefits;
v. Process payrolls;
vi. Coordinate staff performance appraisal;
vii. Develop and implement training and development programs;
viii. Coordinate health, safety, and welfare of all employees at the workplace;
ix. Manage the disciplinary process end-to-end;
x. Coordinate the performance management process;
xi. Administer pension and compensation schemes;
xii. Serve as custodian of employees’ personal records;
xiii. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the General Manager.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
i. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Public Administration, or a related field;
ii. Strong knowledge of human resource management and labor laws;
iii. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as an HR Officer in a reputable organization;
iv. Understanding of HR best practices and organizational development.

3.0 EXTENSION OFFICER (2 POSTS)

Nature and Scope
The successful candidate will report to the Operations Manager and will be responsible for assisting farmers in decision-making and ensuring the application of appropriate knowledge to achieve sustainable production and processing. The officer will work directly with farmers (AMCOS members) by sharing information and improved agricultural techniques to increase cotton production.

Duties and Responsibilities
i. Provide extension education and services to farmers on their farms to improve production;
ii. Collect data and prepare reports;
iii. Assist farmers in making informed decisions on crop production to increase output;
iv. Advise farmers on cost-saving farming equipment and procedures;
v. Assist farmers to comply with crop standards;
vi. Ensure crop quality control at AMCOS level;
vii. Promote adoption of good agricultural practices;
viii. Assist farmers in agricultural produce value chain activities;
ix. Ensure availability of farm inputs and facilitate their application;
x. Apply agricultural technologies, record field activities, and register farmers (AMCOS members);
xi. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
i. Diploma in General Agriculture or a related field;
ii. Minimum of two (2) years’ working experience in a reputable organization;
iii. Expertise in crop production;
iv. Basic proficiency in ICT tools, including smartphone applications and MS Office.

4.0 PERSONAL SECRETARY (1 POST)

Nature and Scope
The successful candidate will report to the Human Resource Officer and will be responsible for managing diaries, organizing meetings and appointments, controlling access to managers or executives, organizing events and conferences, and reminding managers or executives of important tasks and deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities
i. Receive, interview, and direct visitors accordingly;
ii. Prepare letters, reports, and various documents;
iii. Handle confidential and sensitive information;
iv. Ensure working tools are in good order and maintain a conducive working environment;
v. Receive and make telephone calls;
vi. Maintain registers for incoming and outgoing mails and files;
vii. Communicate information through typing, sending, and receiving emails and faxes;
viii. Manage diaries and make appointments for designated officers or the General Manager;
ix. Keep records of events, meeting dates, schedules, and related tasks;
x. Organize and follow up on travel arrangements and meeting logistics;
xi. Process, file, sort, and retrieve information;
xii. Perform any other duties as assigned by the General Manager or Supervisor.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
i. Diploma in Secretarial Studies (NTA Level 6) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
ii. Must have passed shorthand in both English and Kiswahili (Hati Mkato) at a speed of 100 words per minute;
iii. Computer skills in MS Word, MS Excel, Internet, Email, and MS Publisher from a recognized institution;
iv. Minimum of two (2) years relevant working experience;
v. Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
