JOB VACANCY
Ruaha Catholic University (RUCU) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates, both from within and outside the United Republic of Tanzania, for the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Institutional Background
Ruaha Catholic University (RUCU) is a fully fledged University since 2014, located in Iringa Municipality in the Southern Highlands of the United Republic of Tanzania. The University is established and owned by the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) as a private, secular University open to all eligible persons regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, political affiliation, or station in life.
The University is governed and administered in accordance with the Universities Act, 2005, the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) guidelines, the Catholic Church Policy on Higher Education Institutions (Ex Corde Ecclesiae), and the provisions of the Charter establishing the University and its rules. The University motto is Academic Excellence and Moral Finesse. RUCU has five faculties and one institute.
Tenure
The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs shall be appointed for a tenure of four (4) years.
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties of the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
i. Assisting the Vice Chancellor in the performance of his/her duties and, in that regard, being responsible for the academic affairs of the University.
ii. Performing the functions of the Vice Chancellor in his/her absence.
iii. Performing such other functions as may be delegated by the Vice Chancellor.
iv. Providing day-to-day academic leadership and coordination of research and community service/outreach.
v. Ensuring effective and efficient implementation of policies on teaching and research in order to maintain academic standards of the University.
vi. Evaluating curricula offered by the University and proposing reforms in accordance with national education policies and labour market requirements.
vii. Overseeing quality assurance in the University.
viii. Planning and supervising academic services, research, and training activities of the University.
ix. Directing and supervising the senior management team responsible for academic and related functions to ensure performance at the expected level of excellence.
x. Implementing academic policies, directives, and decisions of the University Council in order to achieve desired outcomes.
xi. Performing any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Vice Chancellor, Senate, and Council.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold the academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor with proven experience in university leadership and academic management.
