SCHOOL OF NURSING (SONU)

Job Title: Assistant Lecturer (1 Post)

Reports to: Dean, School of Nursing (SONU)
Duty Station: SJUT Chief Mazengo Campus – Dodoma

Job Summary:
Under the guidance of senior staff, the Assistant Lecturer will conduct teaching, research, and public services such as consultancy.

Qualifications:
Holder of a Master of Science in Nursing or an equivalent degree, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 (out of 5.0) at undergraduate level and a minimum GPA of 4.0 (out of 5.0) at Master’s level or equivalent. Must be registered by the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC).

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Lecturer shall be responsible to the Dean, School of Nursing (SONU), for effective preparation and delivery of teaching materials, application of problem-solving and innovative skills, and identification and support of students with learning difficulties. Duties include:
(i) Conducting lectures, preparing case studies, and assisting in tutorials and seminars for undergraduate courses;
(ii) Working with senior faculty members on research and consultancy projects;
(iii) Understudying senior academic staff in supervising special projects and conducting, publishing, and disseminating research;
(iv) Participating in training, research, and consultancy;
(v) Marking and grading examinations and tests;
(vi) Supervising students during seminars, examinations, practicals, fieldwork, and tutorials;
(vii) Participating in the preparation of teaching manuals;
(viii) Participating in curriculum development;
(ix) Invigilating examinations;
(x) Attending workshops, conferences, and symposia;
(xi) Attending faculty development training;
(xii) Promoting excellence in all departmental service programmes; and
(xiii) Performing any other duties as assigned by a competent authority.

Salary Scale: According to SJUT Scheme of Service
Tenure: Fixed-term contract of four (4) years, renewable upon satisfactory performance

Job Title: Tutorial Assistant (2 Posts)

Reports to: Dean, School of Nursing (SONU)
Duty Station: SJUT Chief Mazengo Campus – Dodoma

Job Summary:
Under the guidance of senior staff, the Tutorial Assistant will conduct teaching, research, and public services such as consultancy, with specific responsibility for coordinating skills laboratories.

Qualifications:
Holder of a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences, or Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences and Technology, with a minimum GPA of 3.5 (out of 5.0) at undergraduate level. Must be registered by relevant authorities such as MeLSAT.

Experience:
Working experience in tertiary education institutions will be an added advantage.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The Tutorial Assistant (Medical Laboratory Technology – MLT) shall be responsible to the Head of Department of Medical Laboratory Technology, School of Nursing (SONU), and shall:
(i) Understudy senior academic staff, including attending lectures and leading seminars, tutorials, and practicals;
(ii) Acquire skills and knowledge in training, research, and consultancy;
(iii) Assist in marking and grading assignments, tests, examinations, and invigilation under supervision;
(iv) Assist in research, consultancy, and outreach activities;
(v) Participate in curriculum development;
(vi) Assist in other departmental service programmes; and
(vii) Perform any other duties assigned by a competent authority.

Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician – MLT (1 Post)

Reports to: Dean, School of Nursing (SONU)
Duty Station: SJUT Chief Mazengo Campus – Dodoma

Job Summary:
Under the guidance of senior staff, the Medical Laboratory Technician will supervise and administer practical duties for medical laboratory students and support repair and maintenance of laboratory facilities.

Qualifications:
Holder of an Ordinary Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or Medical Laboratory Sciences with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (out of 5.0).

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of Department of Medical Laboratory Technology, School of Nursing (SONU), the MLT shall:
(i) Carry out laboratory practicals, student projects, research, consultancy, and services under supervision;
(ii) Assist in repair and maintenance of laboratory facilities;
(iii) Assist senior staff in laboratory operations; and
(iv) Perform any other duties as assigned by a competent authority.

FACULTY OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES (FaNAS)

Job Title: Laboratory Technician – Chemistry (1 Post)

Reports to: Dean, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences (FaNAS)
Duty Station: SJUT Chief Mazengo Campus – Dodoma

Job Summary:
Under the guidance of senior staff, the Laboratory Technician will supervise and administer practical duties for chemistry students and assist in repair and maintenance of laboratory facilities.

Qualifications:
Holder of an Ordinary Diploma in Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Sciences with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (out of 5.0).

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences (FaNAS), the Laboratory Technician shall:
(i) Carry out laboratory practicals, student projects, research, consultancy, and services under supervision;
(ii) Assist in repair and maintenance of laboratory facilities;
(iii) Assist senior staff in laboratory operations; and
(iv) Perform any other duties as assigned by a competent authority.
