BACKGROUND

Amref Health Africa – Tanzania is a non-profit public health organization that has been supporting the Government of Tanzania in addressing public health issues, including maternal and child health, HIV, TB, Malaria, and nutrition, since 1987. Amref Health Africa – Tanzania collaborates with and receives guidance from the Tanzania Ministry of Health, the Zanzibar Ministry of Health, and the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG). The organization is inviting qualified applicants to apply for the following vacancies.

1. PROJECT OFFICER – AFYA HIMILIVU

Number of Vacancies: 1
Contract Duration: Full-time, 12 Months
Reports to: Project Manager – Afya Himilivu
Location: Pangani, Tanga
Eligibility: Existing and Former Amref Health Africa – Tanzania Staff Only

Job Summary

The Project Officer will support the implementation of the Afya Himilivu Project by coordinating field activities, strengthening stakeholder engagement, providing technical assistance, monitoring project performance, and ensuring timely reporting. The role will work closely with Regional and Council Health Management Teams, health facilities, Community Health Workers, community structures, and other stakeholders to improve access to quality health, nutrition, and climate-resilient health services.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day implementation of project activities.
• Organize trainings, workshops, review meetings, supervision visits, and outreach activities.
• Provide technical assistance to health workers and community structures.
• Support implementation of MNCAH, Nutrition, SRH, Community Health, and Climate-Resilient Health interventions.
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement and government collaboration.
• Support monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and documentation.
• Assist in budgeting, logistics, and administrative activities.
• Document project achievements and contribute to proposal development.
• Coordinate project data and ensure accountability.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years' experience in community health systems strengthening and community development.
• Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Nursing, Medicine, Nutrition, Social Sciences, Community Development, or related field.
• Master's Degree in Public Health or related field is an added advantage.
• Experience working with Local Government Authorities and health institutions.
• Strong knowledge of Tanzania's health system and national health policies.
• Experience implementing MNCAH, Nutrition, SRH, Community Health, and health systems strengthening programmes.
• Experience working with RHMTs, CHMTs, health facilities, and CHWs.
• Strong project planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

2. LABORATORY OFFICER – AMR

Number of Vacancies: 1
Contract Duration: Full-time, 9 Months
Reports to: Project Manager – AMR
Location: Dar es Salaam, with travel to project implementation regions
Eligibility: Internal and External Applicants

Job Summary

The Laboratory Officer – AMR will provide technical leadership and implementation support for laboratory and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance activities. The role will strengthen bacteriology services, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, quality assurance, laboratory systems, and GLASS reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Support laboratory readiness assessments.
• Mentor laboratory personnel on bacteriology, AST, quality management, biosafety, specimen management, and data quality.
• Strengthen laboratory quality systems and External Quality Assessment.
• Support implementation of continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate AMR surveillance and GLASS reporting.
• Analyze and disseminate AMR surveillance findings.
• Support monitoring, documentation, technical reporting, and sustainability planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Microbiology, or related field.
• Master's Degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
• Valid professional registration and practicing license where applicable.
• Minimum five (5) years' experience in clinical or public health laboratory services.
• Experience in bacteriology, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, laboratory quality management systems, mentorship, biosafety, AMR surveillance, ISO 15189, CLSI, EUCAST, and national laboratory systems.
• Strong communication, analytical, teamwork, stakeholder engagement, and reporting skills.
• Willingness to travel frequently.

3. PROJECT OFFICER – AMR

Contract Duration: Full-time, 9 Months
Reports to: Project Manager – AMR
Location: Dar es Salaam, with travel to project implementation regions
Eligibility: Internal and External Applicants

Job Summary

The Project Officer – AMR will provide technical implementation support for antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial stewardship interventions, including One Health coordination, use of surveillance evidence, and implementation of national and facility-level technical actions.

Key Responsibilities

• Support implementation of AMR and AMS interventions.
• Coordinate the Commonwealth Partnerships for Antimicrobial Stewardship (CwPAMS) hub-and-spoke model.
• Support evidence-based prescribing using AMR surveillance data.
• Develop and disseminate technical guidelines and training materials.
• Provide technical mentorship and supportive supervision.
• Coordinate with government institutions and stakeholders.
• Support World AMR Awareness Week 2026 activities.
• Monitor implementation progress and prepare technical reports.
• Document lessons learned and ensure compliance with donor and national standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy, Medicine, Medical Microbiology, or another relevant health-related discipline.
• Master's Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Global Health, Clinical Pharmacy, Medical or Clinical Microbiology, One Health, Health Systems Management, or related field is an added advantage.
• Experience with Medicines and Therapeutics Committees.
• Experience delivering technical training, mentorship, and health programme implementation.
• Knowledge of Tanzania's AMR governance framework.
• Experience with donor-funded programmes is an added advantage.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, analytical, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
