JOB VACANCIES

The Tanzania Teachers’ Union is a Trade Union for workers in the teaching profession whose activities cover Mainland Tanzania only. The Union is registered under Registration No. 004 pursuant to the Employment and Labour Relations Act No. 6 of 2004 and employs permanent staff working in all Regions, Districts and Headquarters. In order to improve services to its members, CWT invites applications from qualified Tanzanians for the positions of Personal Secretary and Legal Officer, who are ready to work anywhere in Tanzania.

1. PERSONAL SECRETARY – 27 POSTS

Qualifications

The applicant must have the following qualifications:

a. Must have completed Form Four or above.

b. Must possess a Certificate at NTA Level 4, 5 or 6 in Secretarial Studies recognized by NACTE.

c. Must have experience in using computers and the Internet.

d. Must have at least two years of work experience.

e. Must be fluent in both Kiswahili and English.

Duties and Responsibilities

a. Typing various Union documents.

b. Maintaining various records as instructed by the supervisor.

c. Receiving visitors and directing them to the appropriate offices or persons for assistance.

d. Receiving various office communications and forwarding them to the supervisor.

e. Maintaining cleanliness in the Union offices.

f. Maintaining office confidentiality and performing any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

2. LEGAL OFFICER – 4 POSTS

Qualifications

a. Must possess a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a university recognized by the Government.

b. Must have attended the Law School and been admitted as an Advocate.

c. Must be able to speak fluently and write in Kiswahili and English.

d. Must have computer skills.

e. Must be a Tanzanian citizen.

f. Applicants with a teaching profession/qualification will be given priority.

Duties and Responsibilities

a. Handling various cases involving the Union and its members before courts and institutions with legal authority to hear disputes.

b. Reading and interpreting laws and various legal documents.

c. Providing legal advice to teachers and the Union.

d. Resolving employment-related disputes involving teachers.

e. Following up on the implementation and resolution of various challenges facing teachers in Government offices and with employers.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

  1. All applicants must be Tanzanian citizens and not more than 45 years of age.

  2. All applicants must attach a copy of their birth certificate.

  3. Applicants must attach a detailed Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) containing a reliable postal address and telephone numbers, together with the names and contacts of three reliable referees.

  4. All applications must be accompanied by academic certificates and other relevant documents, including certificates of Form Four and Form Six for applicants who have reached that level, as well as certificates for relevant professional training, in accordance with the requirements of the respective position. All attachments must be properly certified/verified to avoid the possibility of falling out or being lost.

  5. Form Four and Form Six examination certificates.

  6. Professional/academic certificates.

  7. Applicants must have at least two years of work experience.

  8. One recent passport-size photograph, with the applicant’s name written on the back.

  9. Applicants who studied outside Tanzania must ensure that their certificates have been verified and authenticated by the relevant authorities (TCU and NECTA).

  10. Applicants who submit forged information or qualifications will be subject to legal action.

  11. Applications may be written in either Kiswahili or English.

  12. Only applicants who meet the required criteria will be shortlisted and invited for an interview.
