4 Vacancies at TIE

The Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) is a national institution responsible for the development, review, and improvement of curricula and educational materials used in Tanzania’s formal education system. It was established to ensure that education provided at pre-primary, primary, secondary, and teacher education levels meets national goals and responds to social, economic, and technological changes. TIE operates under the Ministry responsible for education and plays a central role in shaping the quality and relevance of education in the country.

One of the core functions of TIE is curriculum development and review. The institute designs competency-based curricula that focus on knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes required for personal development and national progress. Curricula developed by TIE aim to promote critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and practical skills among learners. Regular curriculum reviews are conducted to ensure alignment with national development plans, global trends, and labor market needs.

TIE is also responsible for developing and approving teaching and learning materials such as syllabi, textbooks, teachers’ guides, and digital resources. These materials are prepared to support effective teaching and learning in schools and teacher training institutions. By setting standards for educational content, TIE ensures consistency, quality, and relevance of learning materials used across the country. The institute works closely with publishers, teachers, and education stakeholders to improve the quality of instructional resources.

Another important role of TIE is providing professional support and capacity building to teachers and education officers. The institute organizes training programs, workshops, and seminars to help educators understand and effectively implement curricula. This support enhances teachers’ competence and contributes to improved learning outcomes. TIE also conducts research in education to inform curriculum design, teaching methods, and policy development.

In addition, TIE promotes the integration of cross-cutting issues such as gender equality, environmental conservation, health education, entrepreneurship, and information and communication technology into the curriculum. This ensures that learners are equipped with life skills and values needed to address contemporary challenges. Through its work, the Tanzania Institute of Education contributes significantly to improving the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of education, thereby supporting human capital development and sustainable socio-economic growth in Tanzania.
