The Bank is seeking experienced, results-driven professionals to fill multiple Relationship Manager – SME and Business Development Manager – SME roles across different regions in Tanzania. These roles are within the Retail Banking Division and are critical to driving SME growth, profitability, and customer experience.

Job Purpose
The Relationship Manager – SME drives the growth and profitability of the SME segment by acquiring new customers, managing existing relationships, and delivering tailored financial solutions. The role is responsible for credit and lending sales, deposit mobilization, trade finance, cash management solutions, digital banking services, and insurance/bancassurance offerings. The role also ensures portfolio quality, compliance, and superior customer experience while representing the Bank within SME ecosystems.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
A. Business Development, Sales & Revenue Growth
Acquire SME and Micro-SME customers to grow deposits, lending assets, funded and non-funded income, and digital usage.
Sell comprehensive banking solutions including:
Credit & Lending Solutions (working capital, term loans, overdrafts, asset finance, trade finance)
Deposit & Cash Management Solutions (collections, payments, liquidity management)
Digital Banking Tools (online banking, mobile banking, POS/merchant solutions, Paybill, agency banking)
Insurance/Bancassurance products
Build and manage a strong sales pipeline for consistent business delivery.
Identify SME ecosystems and Local Area Networks for high-value opportunities.
B. Relationship Management & Client Advisory
Manage and grow key SME relationships through regular engagement and structured call programs.
Conduct needs analysis and provide financial advisory solutions to support client growth.
Deliver exceptional customer experience and ensure long-term client retention.
C. Credit, Risk & Portfolio Management
Prepare high-quality credit proposals with strong financial and risk analysis.
Work closely with Credit teams to ensure timely approvals.
Monitor portfolio performance, covenants, and early warning indicators.
Maintain portfolio within acceptable NPL thresholds.
Ensure complete and compliant loan documentation.
D. Deposit Mobilization & Cash Management
Mobilize operating accounts, savings, and term deposits.
Deepen cash management penetration through collections and payments solutions.
Ensure account funding aligns with credit facility covenants.
E. Trade Finance & Treasury Sales
Drive uptake of trade finance products including LCs, guarantees, invoice discounting, and supply chain finance.
Grow forex business in collaboration with Treasury.
F. Digital Banking & Innovation
Promote adoption of digital platforms and automation tools.
Champion the Bank’s digital agenda within the SME segment.
G. Internal & External Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with Credit Risk, Operations, Treasury, Trade Finance, IT, and Product teams.
Engage external partners such as valuers, lawyers, insurers, and guarantee institutions (AGF, ATI).
H. Leadership & Team Support
Provide coaching and support to SME Relationship Officers and branch teams.

SME Banking serves businesses with annual turnover up to TZS 5 billion and is a key growth area within Retail Banking. The role supports sustainable income growth while reinforcing the Bank’s commitment to Tanzania’s economic development through customer-focused and digitally driven banking solutions.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Identify client needs and develop tailored banking solutions.
Drive sales of liability and asset products to achieve targets.
Conduct regular client visits for relationship building and wallet share growth.
Deliver Transaction Banking products and services.
Conduct regular portfolio reviews and monitor growth.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners.
Ensure compliance with AML, reputation risk, and miss-selling policies.
Balance risk and reward by onboarding quality customers.
Maintain NPL levels within acceptable limits (maximum 5%).

Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, or related field.
MBA is an added advantage.
Minimum 2 years’ experience managing SME/Commercial Banking relationships.
Strong knowledge of treasury, trade finance, personal and international banking products.
Strong credit appraisal, marketing, and financial interpretation skills.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
