IHI is seeking dynamic and qualified individuals to fill the following positions based in Bagamoyo and Dar es Salaam.

POSITION 1: FIELD WORKER (1 Position)

Project: Transmission Zero Project
Location: Bagamoyo Branch
Reports To: Field Supervisor/Research Officer

Job Summary:
The Ifakara Health Institute is looking for a dedicated Field Worker to join the Transmission Zero Project in Bagamoyo. The successful candidate will support research activities focused on mosquito-borne diseases and their surveillance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research activities related to mosquito-borne diseases and vector surveillance.
  • Ensure all data and samples collected from experiments are accurately recorded and stored.
  • Strictly adhere to the project’s implementation protocols for mosquito-borne disease surveillance.
  • Support the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) teams in generating summaries and reports from surveillance data to guide project operations.
  • Ensure systematic handling and management of all project data.
  • Assist the Field Supervisor/Research Officer with data analysis and report writing.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the project investigator.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Holder of Secondary Education, Certificate, or Diploma in Laboratory Technology or any other related science field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of research experience in vector control, vector biology, and the rearing of laboratory mosquito colonies.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in laboratory and semi-field rearing of mosquito colonies.
  • Skilled in mosquito sorting using morphological identification keys.
  • Experience with mosquito dissection techniques.
  • Proficient in field mosquito trapping using various trapping methods.
  • Familiarity with IHI’s research on malaria vector control is an added advantage.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge of STATA or R Studio is an added advantage.
  • Language: Fluent in both written and spoken English and Swahili.

POSITION 2: RESEARCH OFFICER (MD) (1 Position)

Project: ViALLIN Project
Location: Bagamoyo Branch
Reports To: Study Director / Principal Investigator
Job Opening Date: 17-Feb-2026
Closing Date: 24-Feb-2026

Job Summary:
IHI is seeking an experienced Research Officer with a Medical Degree to be stationed in Bagamoyo. The role is critical in ensuring delegated phases of the ViALLIN study are conducted per protocols, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles, and that high-quality data and reports are delivered on time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure study procedures are followed, informing the Study Director and taking corrective action for any deviations from the study plan or SOPs.
  • Participate in the writing and review of study protocols.
  • Assist in planning study experiments and logistical arrangements.
  • Ensure all raw data is fully documented and accurately recorded.
  • Assist in writing the final report, ensuring data validity in compliance with GLP.
  • Prepare and present oral and written reports to project partners or the Test Facility Manager.
  • Assess and document the impact of any deviations from the study plan.
  • Verify that computerized systems are validated and equipment is calibrated and fit for use.
  • Ensure all study materials (plan, final report, raw data) are archived upon study completion.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Medical Doctor (MD) or a relevant science degree. A Master of Science in Public Health with a proven track record is an added advantage.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience in data analysis using Stata software.
    • Experience in conducting and supervising laboratory experiments, specifically in medical entomology.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise projects across diverse geographical settings.
  • Familiarity with conducting studies in accordance with OECD GLP principles.
  • Excellent communication and team-working skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly in a demanding, high-pressure environment.
  • Language: Fluent in both written and spoken English and Swahili.

POSITION 3: RESEARCH OFFICER (1 Position)

Location: Bagamoyo Branch
Reports To: Study Director / Principal Investigator

Job Summary:
IHI is looking for a qualified Research Officer to be based in Bagamoyo. The officer will ensure that delegated phases of the study are conducted per agreed protocols and GLP principles, producing high-quality data and reports on time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure study procedures are followed and take appropriate corrective action for any deviations from SOPs or study plans.
  • Participate in the writing of study protocols and the planning of experiments.
  • Assist in writing the final report, ensuring data validity in compliance with GLP.
  • Prepare and present oral and written reports as required.
  • Assess and document the impact of any deviations from the study plan on data quality and integrity.
  • Ensure all raw data is fully documented and recorded.
  • Ensure computerized systems are validated and equipment is calibrated.
  • Ensure proper archiving of all study-related materials upon completion.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: BSc in Microbiology or a relevant qualification.
  • Experience:
    • Experience in data analysis using STATA.
    • Experience in conducting laboratory experiments for Phase I studies.
    • Experience in conducting experiments under GLP principles.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Desired Skills: Good communication skills and data analytics skills.
  • Language: Fluent in both written and spoken English and Swahili.

POSITION 4: RESEARCH OFFICER INTERN (3 Positions)

Job Summary:
IHI is seeking three qualified Research Officer Interns to support the Malaria Atlas Project (MAP) Node in Dar es Salaam. This is an excellent opportunity to enhance analytical and research skills while supporting malaria control programs across Africa.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Practice dissemination and research skills by responding to queries from National Malaria Programs (NMPs) and stakeholders in endemic African countries.
  • Enhance analytical and programming skills.
  • Perform data gathering, extraction, management, and visualization.
  • Design and implement small, time-bound projects that contribute to the overall objectives of MAP.

Job Summary:
IHI is seeking three qualified Research Scientist Interns to support the Malaria Atlas Project (MAP) Node in Dar es Salaam. This role is designed for individuals with advanced degrees who wish to apply their quantitative skills to public health challenges and strengthen leadership in advanced modelling and analysis.

Key Responsibilities:
