Job Summary
Ifakara Health Institute is seeking a Biostatistician Intern who will be
stationed in Dar es Salaam. The Intern will receive training and become part of
the team that is involved in performing routine and specialized tasks in the
implementation of the MSMT2 project. The Intern will have the opportunity to
undertake training in statistical and analytical work related to the MSMT2
project, and contribute to individual data-driven research projects. The
Internship will provide hands-on experience in data management, analysis,
interpretation, and presentation of findings for studies from different areas
of research.
Responsibility:
Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of a successful candidate shall include
theoretical and hands-on training in the following areas.
Undertake hands-on training to familiarize himself/herself with the data
generated by the MSMT2 project and data-analytics to support malaria molecular
surveillance in Tanzania.
Work with the MSMT2 project team in the analysis of real-world biomedical data
focusing on malaria molecular surveillance.
Undertake tailored training for developing statistical computing skills in one
of the programming languages (R, STATA, python or SAS) used in the analysis of
project data.
Take part in the MSMT2 mentorship programme and work towards understanding
options of higher studies or careers in Biostatistics.
Take part in the preprocessing and cleaning of raw data prior to statistical
analysis.
Work with the MSMT2 project team in applying statistical models (e.g., linear
regression, logistic regression, survival analysis) to research questions.
Participate in the process of generating statistical reports and presentations
for use by other members of the project, collaborators and partners.
Attending and contributing to research meetings, discussions, and journal clubs
organized by the MSMT2 project.
Participate in the MSMT2 project training courses for developing his/her skills
in manuscript preparation for scientific publication.
Take part in data management (Clean, process, and analyze) and updating the
existing data base.
Take part in and perform any other activities or duties as may be determined by
the Project Principal Investigator and other superiors.

relevance to the MSMT2 project.
The applicant should have complex problem-solving skills, decision-making,

Holder of a bachelor of science degree in either mathematics and statistics,
biostatistics, or data science acquired within the past 24 months (2 years).
Pass in the first degree with a minimum GPA of 3.8 and with exceptional ability
for science leadership development.

Experience in genomics and practical skills in different molecular biology
techniques (laboratory scientists), mathematical/statistical modelling (intern
in biostatistics) and at least one (1) year of experience in a similar field
will have an added advantage.

stationed at Ifakara, Morogoro to support all day-to-day administrative
functions to the project under Biomedical Research & Clinical Trials.
Admimistrative Assistant is expected to provide crucial administrative and
logistical support to project managers and teams, ensuring smooth daily
operations by managing schedules, coordinating meetings, organizing documents,
tracking tasks/budgets, handling communications, procurement of supplies,
payment and Human Resource issues.
Responsibility:

Perform general clerical duties such as photocopying, scanning, mailing,
filing, making phone calls, and responding to emails.
Liaise with Procurement Unit and make follow ups on project goods and service
providers utility and bills, etc

stationed in Dar es Salaam. The Intern will receive training and become part of
the team that is involved in performing routine and specialized tasks related
to the execution of laboratory procedures for the MSMT2project. The positions
entail dedication and commitment to follow the training program of the MSMT2
project. The training will cover areas such as sample collection, processing,
analysis, and storage, as well as acquiring skills and experience in Good
Clinical Practices, Good Clinical Laboratory Practices, Standard Operating
Procedures, and professional and project standards and/or guidelines.
Responsibility:
Responsibilities
Taking part in sample collection, processing, and analysis according to the
projects needs and SOPs.
Work with the MSMT2 team to ensure preventive maintenance of Laboratory
equipment is carried out as planned.
Processing of samples and recording all test results according to SOPs for all
specimens delivered to the laboratory.
Taking part in ensuring storage and location of specimen records are conducted
according to the SOPs of the MSMT2 project.
Participating in planning and performing routine and specialized technical
procedures required by the project including troubleshooting during work.
Working together with the MSMT2 team to maintain laboratory equipment standards
and cleanliness according to the engineer's advice, guidelines, and equipment
manual.
Under the supervision of the senior project scientists, take part in effective
communication with other members of the project, hospital staff, and field
teams for effective implementation of the MSMT2 project.
Participate in quality control programs of MSMT2 as required by GCP and GCLP to
ensure the reliability of testing procedures, proper functioning of laboratory
equipment, and compliance with relevant regulations.
Work with the MSMT2 project team and other partners to implement internal and
external regulatory authorities responsible for Quality Controls, health and
safety, and inspection control practices.
Attending and contributing to research meetings, discussions, and journal clubs
organized by the MSMT2 project.
Participate in the MSMT2 project training courses for developing their skills

Ifakara Health Institute through DM4M Project is seeking a Research Officer
Interns to join the team which is mandated to develop and strengthen the
required capacity for local scientists as well as to work on mathematical
modelling, machine learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI), software
programming, and in data management & analysis related projects. The broad
objective is to facilitate internships and short-term training programs for
team members to gain practical experience in data analysis, Machine
Learning/Artificial Intelligence, and modeling.
Responsibility:

Execute different Data Science and Mathematical Modelling tasks in relation to
health while acquiring the required skills.
Participate in training in order to understand the biology of infectious
diseases (especially malaria).
Work on data management and analysis related to mosquito studies.
Work on several projects to acquire skills on computer programming, machine
learning, and AI.
Work on the improvement of existing Vector Control Optimization Model (VCOM)
framework.
Participate in grant application to support masters and/or Ph.D. programs.
Provide support to undertake different reviews related to infectious disease
modelling projects.
Participate in writing reports, scientific manuscripts, and other outputs to
disseminate results in technical working groups, and in local
&international conferences.
