ANNOUNCEMENT OF VOLUNTEER TEACHING POSITIONS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS
EDUCATION CADRE THROUGH THE GPE–TSP PROJECT
The Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO–RALG), through the Global Partnership for Education – Teacher Support Programme (GPE–TSP), is implementing various interventions aimed at strengthening the teaching profession, including the engagement of Volunteer Teachers.
Through this project, PMO–RALG hereby announces one thousand five hundred (1,500) Volunteer Teaching positions for Secondary Schools under Local Government Authorities with the greatest teacher shortages, in accordance with the Secondary Teacher Allocation Protocol (S–TAP).
Therefore, PMO–RALG invites qualified Tanzanians to apply for one thousand five hundred (1,500) Volunteer Teaching positions as specified in this announcement. These positions are intended for teachers of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, Vocational Subjects, and Business Studies.
1.0 GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A VOLUNTEER TEACHER
i. To prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson notes, and work plans for other assigned duties;
ii. To prepare, use, and maintain teaching and learning materials;
iii. To teach, conduct assessments, and maintain records of students’ academic progress;
iv. To supervise and monitor students’ attendance at school and in classrooms;
v. To guide students’ intellectual, physical, and moral development, including providing guidance and counseling;
vi. To provide professional and academic advice on educational development;
vii. To manage and safeguard school equipment and property;
viii. To perform any other duties assigned by the Head of School in accordance with school responsibilities.
1.1 QUALIFICATIONS FOR VOLUNTEER PHYSICS TEACHER – 504 POSITIONS
i. Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education specializing in Physics from Government-recognized higher learning institutions; or
ii. A non-Education Bachelor’s Degree specializing in Physics plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Government-recognized institutions; or
iii. Diploma in Education specializing in Physics from Government-recognized Teacher Training Colleges.
1.2 QUALIFICATIONS FOR VOLUNTEER CHEMISTRY TEACHER – 246 POSITIONS
i. Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education specializing in Chemistry from Government-recognized higher learning institutions; or
ii. A non-Education Bachelor’s Degree specializing in Chemistry plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Government-recognized institutions; or
iii. Diploma in Education specializing in Chemistry from Government-recognized Teacher Training Colleges.
1.3 QUALIFICATIONS FOR VOLUNTEER BIOLOGY TEACHER – 332 POSITIONS
i. Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education specializing in Biology from Government-recognized higher learning institutions; or
ii. A non-Education Bachelor’s Degree specializing in Biology plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Government-recognized institutions; or
iii. Diploma in Education specializing in Biology from Government-recognized Teacher Training Colleges.
1.4 QUALIFICATIONS FOR VOLUNTEER MATHEMATICS TEACHER – 418 POSITIONS
i. Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education specializing in Mathematics from Government-recognized higher learning institutions; or
ii. A non-Education Bachelor’s Degree specializing in Mathematics plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Government-recognized institutions; or
iii. Diploma in Education specializing in Mathematics from Government-recognized Teacher Training Colleges.
1.5 GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR ALL APPLICANTS
i. Must be a Tanzanian citizen with a National Identification Number (NIDA) and aged not more than 43 years;
ii. Must attach copies of a Birth Certificate, academic certificates, and professional qualifications;
iii. Must be willing to work in secondary schools with high teacher shortages;
iv. Must not be employed by the Government or any other institution;
v. Must not have been dismissed or retired from Public Service due to misconduct;
vi. All required documents must be uploaded in the application system;
vii. Applicants who completed secondary education outside Tanzania must obtain an Equivalence Number (starting with EQ…) from the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA).
