Position Summary
We are looking for a Laboratory Technician who will be stationed at the Bagamoyo Office. The Laboratory Technician will support the implementation and daily operations of studies conducted under Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards. The role includes maintaining insectary facilities and equipment, rearing mosquitoes, preparing specimens for experiments, and performing entomological fieldwork in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Responsibilities

Assist in the implementation and day-to-day management of insectary studies following GLP standards.

Maintain insectary facilities and equipment according to SOPs.

Ensure all equipment is in proper working condition, record daily room temperatures, and report any malfunctions to the Insectary Manager.

Maintain all insectary equipment in good condition and ensure proper custody.

Rear and maintain mosquito colonies, including:
-
Feeding larvae with fish food.
-
Feeding adult mosquitoes using human arm or membrane feeding techniques.

Prepare mosquitoes for experimental procedures as specified in SOPs.

Conduct entomological fieldwork and sample collection as assigned by the Insectary Manager.

Accurately record data and maintain laboratory documentation in compliance with GLP and institutional requirements.

Participate in required training programs related to entomological and GLP practices.

Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Insectary Manager.
Desired Skills

Experience in mosquito rearing and feeding assay techniques.

Experience in mosquito dissection.

Experience in conducting entomological fieldwork.

GLP training and awareness.
Essential Qualification

Diploma in Laboratory Sciences or a related field.
Required Experience

Experience working in an insectary environment.

Understanding of GLP standards and laboratory safety procedures.
Preferred Language Skills
-
Excellent communication in both English and Swahili.
2. Research Officer (2 Positions)
Duty Station: Bagamoyo Office

Position Summary
We are looking for two (2) Research Officers who will be stationed at the Bagamoyo Office. A Research Officer will ensure delegated phases of the study are conducted in accordance with agreed protocols and that high-quality data and reports are produced on time and in compliance with GLP principles. The role involves providing leadership in the testing facility (ITF) and ensuring GLP work in the testing area is completed according to SOPs.
Responsibilities

Assist in developing study plans/protocols and amendments.

Ensure study plans, amendments, and SOPs are available to all study personnel and adhered to.

Ensure procedures specified in the study plan are followed and notify the Study Director of any deviations, taking corrective action when necessary.

Ensure all raw data are properly documented and recorded accurately.
-
Assist in writing the final report and ensure data validity in compliance with GLP principles.
-
Prepare and present oral and written reports as required by the Project Leader or Test Facility Manager.

Assess and document the impact of deviations on study quality and integrity and acknowledge SOP deviations.
-
Ensure computerized systems used in the study are validated and equipment is calibrated and fit for use.

Ensure that upon study completion, all study materials (study plan, final report, raw data, supporting documentation) are archived.

Ensure appropriate storage of equipment, supplies, and records in the testing area.
-
Maintain and update applicable data forms, logs, and checklists.

Set, measure, and track testing operational performance against set goals.

Ensure the testing laboratory operates safely and efficiently, including equipment maintenance.

Maintain equipment records and follow up on testing activities according to SOPs.

Support development and delivery of internal training and communication to the Study Director.
Required Skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Essential Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Aquaculture, or a related field.
Required Experience

Experience in GLP studies and report writing.

Experience in data analysis using STATA.

Experience conducting phase one experiments.
